Progress & Successes in EU Common Fisheries Policy

This debate is hosted by Clara Aguilera MEPAlain Cadec, Chair of Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE); and WWF

It will coincide with the launch of a new WWF report assessing Member State implementation of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) since 2013.

The debate panel features:

  • Dr Samantha Burgess, Head of Marine Policy, WWF European Policy Office
  • Elisa Roller, Head of Unit, CFP and Structural Support, Policy Development and Coordination, DG MARE
  • Luc van Hoof, European Research Development, Wageningen Marine Research
  • Nicolas Fernandez Muñoz, President, ALP Litoral Cadiz Estrecho
  • Sebastijan Raljević, 30th generation fisher, Co-Management Committee, Telaščica MPA

The event will focus on the successful bottom-up approach of Atlantic fishers to safeguard their industry, the successful outcomes from voluntary tracking and reporting by small scale fishing vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, and the solutions underway for stock recovery in the North Sea. By showcasing different solutions from across Europe, the discussion aims to further effective implementation of the CFP and fisheries best practices in time for 2020 and beyond.
