PROSPECTS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN EUROPE: THE LATEST IMF OUTLOOK

Economic, Financial, and Banking Affairs
Date: Wednesday, 05 December 2018 13:30

Venue: European Parliament, Library Reading Room, ASP 6D 128

The International Monetary Fund’s latest Regional Economic Outlook for Europe suggests that the European economy will continue to grow in the near term, but expansion will be dampened by external factors, such as slowing global demand, escalating trade disputes, and higher fuel prices. Tighter financial conditions in vulnerable emerging market economies and maturing business cycles act as additional headwinds. This EPRS-IMF policy roundtable will explore the outlook and policy implications.

Speakers: Bogusław LIBERADZKI, MEP, EP Vice-President with responsibility for relations with the World Bank and the IMF - Gunnar HÖKMARK, Member, EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs - Jeffrey FRANKS, Director, IMF Europe Office, Brussels - Amela HUBIC, Economic Adviser, European Political Strategy Centre (EPSC), European Commission - Grégory CLAEYS, Research Fellow, Bruegel; Associate Professor, Conservatoire national des arts et métiers, Paris - Angelos DELIVORIAS, Policy Analyst, Economic Policies Unit, EPRS
