U.S. Antitrust Law v. EU Competition Law in an Increasingly Digital Economy

Competition - Webinars
Date: Wednesday, 13 March 2019

Venue: Online

Description

This is a complimentary program sponsored by Pepper Hamilton.

As globalization and digitization pose new antitrust challenges around the world for companies with cross-border relationship, authorities and lawmakers are forced to focus on and quickly catch up with new conceptual work, legislative initiatives and increased enforcement activities.  Although E.U. Competition and U.S. antitrust laws cover most of the same subjects, rely on similar economic principles and have followed broadly similar conceptual approaches, a divergence appears to be in process.  Differences are surfacing regarding treatment of algorithm-driven cartels, big data and resale restrictions.  An international panel of antitrust law experts will address the myriad questions of how these new considerations affect businesses, explore the apparent enthusiasm of particular European enforcers to intervene or adjust competition law to keep pace with the fast-evolving digital economy.

Educational Objectives:
• The differences in how U.S. and EU antitrust law address innovation, vertical restraints, big data, and other aspects of the digital economy
• Guidance for in-house antitrust counsel on responding to these new focuses of enforcement agencies
• Key take-aways for managing the challenges posed by the apparent differences among jurisdictions and for remaining an invaluable resource to your business teams

Who would benefit most from attending this program?
In-house counsel and corporate legal professionals working with antitrust issues.

Production and programming support is provided by the marketing services team at Bloomberg Next.
