Roundtable on the visibility of women in the public sphere

Civil Society
Date: Thursday, 07 March 2019

Venue: European Parliament, ASP buildig, Room 5E2

Despite the European Parliament’s firm commitment towards achieving gender equality, women are still under-represented at every level of the EP’s management positions. The introduction of important human resources policies have begun to remedy this gender imbalance but there is yet more to be done. A vital element of this effort is to change people’s perception of the role of women by means of female empowerment and the increased visibility of women in the public sphere.

You are invited to hear and engage in discussion with the following high-level political and administrative participants, as well as two keynote speakers:

Dimitrios Papadimoulis, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Chair of the High-Level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity
Angelika Mlinar, MEP, Rapporteur on Gender Mainstreaming in the work of the European Parliament
Kristian Knudsen, Director-General for personnel
Erika Landi, Director for HR Support and Social Services

Keynote speakers:

Marriet Schuurman, Human Rights Ambassador and former NATO Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security
María Andrés Marín, Head of Madrid Liaison Office and winner of 2018 Simone Veil Equality and Diversity Award.

Directors-General Leena Maria Linnus and Agnieszka Walter-Drop will take part in the debate following the presentations, during which staff members will be able to ask questions, share their opinions and make their own proposals to participants.

The event can be followed by videoconference from room KAD 06C025 in the Konrad Adenauer building in Luxembourg. Please find in attachment the programme and the poster for the event.

You can also visit the information stands set up by the Equality and Diversity Unit and COPEC on 7 March from 09.30 to 16.30 in Brussels (3rd floor ASP bar area) and from 09.30 to 14.30 in Luxembourg (1st floor KAD) where you can pick up one of the first copies of the new "Women in the European Parliament" brochure.
