New Impulses for the EU Refugee, Asylum and Migration

Home affairs, Migration and Integration
Date: Tuesday, 19 March 2019 09:30 - 16:30

Venue: Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union

There are many reasons for migration: persecution and war, poverty and hunger, but also the pursuit of a better life. Migration is – in short – the medium- or long-term relocation of the center of life. This happens in large numbers legally, but also outside the legal framework and it concerns Europe increasingly. Our exchange provides insights into exemplary processes that drive people out of their homes. Experts from Pakistan and Somalia will talk about the complexity of reasons for migration into, inside and out of their countries. The country studies and various interviews in the recent publication of the Heinrich Böll Foundation as well as another study on the EU Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) make it clear, how very little we know about the so-called "causes of flight" and yet show the need for a discussion on better political shaping of migration.

ECDPM’s Anna Knoll will speak at this event.
