The European Parliament: Institutional Dynamics and Political Change

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Tuesday, 02 April 2019 18:00 - 20:00

Venue: European Parliament, ASP building, Library Room 05D

The European Parliament is without doubt the EU political institution that has evolved the most since the beginning of European integration. Recently, it has continued to undergo changes that are deep but often unnoticed. The objective of this policy roundtable is to assess the many developments that can be witnessed within the Parliament and in its relations with the outside world since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty (2009) and last European elections (2014). More specifically, it aims at understanding the place of the Parliament within the European Union political system and towards citizens and territories, as well as its role in EU policy-making, and the political context it faces in the run-up to the European elections in May 2019.

Speakers:  Danuta Hübner, MEP, Chair of the EP Committee on Constitutional Affairs - Olivier Costa, Director of European Political and Governance Studies at the College of Europe, Bruges and CNRS Research Professor at Sciences Po Bordeaux - Johannes Wolters, Research Fellow at CETEUS, University of Cologne - Nathalie Brack, Visiting Professor, Department of European Political and Governance Studies and Academic Coordinator, European Studies Programme, College of Europe, Bruges - Martin Westlake, Visiting Professor, Department of European Political and Governance Studies, College of Europe, Bruges - Naja BENTZEN, Policy Analyst in External Policy Unit, EPRS
