EU’s budget after 2020 – Relaunching the discussion after the EU elections

Economic, Financial, and Banking Affairs
Date: Wednesday, 10 July 2019 19:00 - 20:30

Venue: Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU

Currently, the EU Member States, the European Parliament and the European Commission are discussing the future structure of a “modern, balanced and fair” EU budget post-2020 to deliver on Europe’s new political priorities. Not only Britain's (imminent) exit, but also the extension of EU competences to areas such as border management, migration or defence, will increase the EU's financial needs significantly, of which 70% is covered by contributions from EU Member States, Revenues from new own sources of income can only partly compensate these additional expenses. Hence cutbacks are more than likely and the focus lies on areas such as cohesion and structural funds as well as the common agricultural policy (CAP). But would cutbacks in these sectors mean for the Free State of Bavaria and other regions? What will change and how can regions prepare for it? And in which way are the European elections influencing the current budget discussions? We have the pleasure of inviting you to discuss the future of the European budget after 2020 with our experts on the panel.
