Human Rights
Date: Saturday, 21 September 2019 18:00 - 23:00

Venue: ULB Campus, Solbosch campus and building K

Connected We Stand: ULB Coopération and Connect Brussels ASBL get connected for the International Peace Day.

The association “Connect Your City Brussels” and the NGO “ULB Cooperation” organize on 21 of September at 6:30 pm at the Solbosch campus and building K, a festival dedicated to peace and human rights. It will be the first edition of "Connected We Stand Festival”.

"Connected We Stand Festival” aims to raise awareness of peace, human rights and social discrimination through the intervention of activists, politicians and artists. It will be held simultaneously in Athens, Brussels and Nicosia. Athens and Brussels will be connected via live-streaming during the festival. The wish of the organizers is to have an extension at the European level and to organize the festival in more European capitals with the participation of young activists and important social personalities.

Living in a world full of social injustices, several associations will be present to raise awareness and pass a message in defending human rights. Such associations are: NGO Justice and Peace, Foundation Denis Mukwege, Amnesty International Francophone of ULB, association Bon for the reception and integration of immigrants, the association Refugees Are Not Alone, as well as European deputies like Stelios Kympouropoulos of EPP. The Stand Up Comedian, Basel, will give a show during the event too.  Artists participating in the "Connected We Stand" festival are: Naor Nacho (DJ), Solid Smoke, Sheriff, Anais Vathi and the band Joyfull Meeting. At the end of the concert there will be an open mic for the public.

The coordinator of the festival in Brussels and student at the ULB, Anaīs Vathi, emphasizes that “It's the time to create a movement of young people in order to stop injustices, war and social discrimination. The world must understand that it is our obligation to defend human rights and protect the world we live in. The earth is suffering, the environment is being destroyed and humanity is going through one of its most difficult times."

The association Connect Your City Brussels aims to help young people to have an active life by participating in creative activities, developing their skills through psycho-educational programs and individual counseling. Its selfless aim is to foster communication and interaction between young people themselves and between society and young people throughout Europe and third countries. The main purpose is to create a new European cultural identity that respects diversity and different cultures.

ULB-Coopération is committed to contributing to the construction of a society in which we live, a society that is just, emancipatory, supportive, responsible, where all citizens, without gender discrimination, are treated equally. It is committed to contributing to the construction of public spaces of freedom and development, respectful of philosophical or religious beliefs.

Actress of development and North-South cooperation, ULB-Cooperation develops a systemic and multidisciplinary approach that takes into account individuals and their environment. It is committed to make a positive and lasting change. Its actions are built in collaboration with beneficiaries and partners, with a view to excellence and applying high standards in terms of integrity, transparency and ethics. They respond to the priority needs of populations by providing adapted, sustainable, innovative solutions that respect people, cultures and the environment.

A stand will be set up by the association « La Plateforme Citoyenne de Soutien aux Réfugiés » for clothing donations.
