Human Rights

Date: Wednesday, 04 March 2020 10:00 - 13:30

Venue: Brussels, communicated upon registration

Trafficking in Human Beings affects over 40 million people globally* and we can all play a part to tackle this inhuman crime. Men, women and children are being cruelly exploited for little or no pay, often whilst enduring horrific living or working conditions.

In Wales, this work is spearheaded by a Leadership Group, with members drawn from the Public Sector, Non-Government Organisations and academia. Their mission is to deliver a range of multi-agency initiatives aimed at reducing trafficking in human beings.

A dedicated Co-ordinator works across all sectors to deliver a consistent programme to counter trafficking, and provide the best possible support for victims. To date, we have had cases of victims ranging from 10 months old to adults in their seventies. This joined-up multi-agency approach has enabled us to identify, rescue and support an increasing number of victims every year, and where possible bring the perpetrators to justice.

The only way to beat Trafficking in Human Beings is for organisations to work together.

At this event you will

  • Learn about the joint initiatives that are changing people’s lives and making Wales a safer place
  • Network with members of the Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group and other participants to explore how European partners can work together to mitigate slavery

Mark Drakeford AM, First Minister of Wales, will deliver the closing remarks.
