Opportunities and Challenges for the Data Economy

ICT and Digital Agenda
Date: Wednesday, 10 May 2017 09:00 - 16:45

Venue: European Commission DG CONNECT  |  City: Oudergem, Belgium

European cities are expected to play a critical role in the achievement of strategic European targets in relation to energy and carbon emissions, jobs creation and overall environmental sustainability.

Mobility is a key factor of urban life, from business, to health, leisure and education. Urban mobility is moving to a paradigm centered on multi-modal, on-demand, and personalized travel enabled by real-time, accurate access to information. Data and modern technologies will play a crucial role in that journey. Advanced data analytics based on the integration and re-use of different data sources is already proving a key enabling factor for effective and sustainable urban mobility solutions; however, their uptake may be hindered by a range of governance, legal, technical, operational and financial constraints.

The study, Data in Smart Cities and Smart Mobility-Analysis of the current situation-SMART 2016/0083 – by IDC and UrbanDNA on behalf of the European Commission, DG CONNECT, is addressing the innovative use of data as a resource for a faster adoption and implementation of mobility solutions.

In this one day workshop, IDC and UrbanDNA leading experts will present their insights on:

  • Mapping of most relevant smart urban mobility use cases
  • Critical issues affecting the development of smart urban mobility solutions
  • Analysis of barriers, constraints and policy gaps
  • Discussion of potential actions to address barriers and gaps.

Only a selected group of European opinion leaders are invited to participate in the discussion, and will be given access to the draft conclusions of the study. The results of the workshop will be shared with the participants and will be used as input into the development of the Final Study Report, which will eventually be published by the EC and made publicly available.
