Consequences of a US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal

Foreign policy, Security and Defence
Date: Monday, 14 May 2018 09:30 - 11:30

Venue: CEPS Conference Room  |  City: Brussel, Belgium

President Trump has been building up suspense over whether or not to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal. There is a very real prospect that he will do so when the statutory deadline for recertification of the JCPOA expires on 12 May 2018. Trump’s ultimatum to Europe that flaws in the deal be fixed, and Iran’s response that the US would pay a high price for breaking the JCPOA, have piled pressure on the EU to prevent regional security from being plunged into even more uncertainty.

This seminar explores the international, European and domestic ramifications if and when Trump walks away from the JCPOA.
