Scotland and Europe working together for a sustainable energy transition

Energy, Environment and Climate
Date: Monday, 04 June 2018 09:30 - 19:30

Venue: Scotland House  |  City: Brussel, Belgium

At the end of 2017 the Scottish Government published Scotland’s first Energy Strategy; setting out the vision for the future energy system in Scotland and articulating a number of priorities for a whole-system energy approach considering both the use and supply of energy for heat, power and transport.

To mark the beginning of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week, Scotland House Brussels is hosting three roundtable events on Monday 4 June, to coincide with the visit to Brussels of the Scottish Government Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, Paul Wheelhouse, and exploring some of the aspects of the energy strategy.

The day aims to promote knowledge and policy exchange between participants and will include discussion of the contribution Scotland can make through its new strategy to the priorities and challenges set out under the EU’s  Energy Union package, whilst highlighting expertise and good practice in Scotland and elsewhere in the EU. Full details and a confirmation of timings will follow, however, roundtables are planned on the following themes:

  • Decarbonising heating systems: towards low carbon energy efficient buildings (09:30-12:00)
  • Scotland’s pathway to developing sustainable islands (13:00-15:00)
  • Investment and innovation in Scotland’s marine and subsea engineering sectors  (15:30-17:30)

Participants will include representatives from the Scottish Government, and the wider Scottish energy, innovation and investment community, while also bringing together colleagues and partners from the European Commission, Member State and regional Governments in Europe, trade associations and think tanks, as well as being open to any stakeholder interested in the whole-system energy approach in Scotland.

We invite you to join us for a series of roundtables during the course of 4 June to explore these topics in further detail. Registration will be possible for individual roundtables and we invite you to express your initial interest in attending, specifying if possible, which events you are interested in coming along too.

The day of events will be followed by a networking reception in Scotland House, showcasing Scottish hospitality and culinary excellence.
