Persecution of LGBTI persons in Chechnya

Human Rights
Date: Wednesday, 06 June 2018 15:00 - 18:30

Venue: European Parliament, Paul-Henri Spaak Building, Room PHS P4B001  |  City: Ixelles

Hearing: 'Persecution of LGBTI persons in Chechnya'

The event aims at highlighting the still on-going persecution of gay (or perceived gay men) in Chechnya, conducted with the silent consent from the leaders in the region - and with no action taken by the Russian Federal authorities.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 16 May 2017, with the title “Resolution on the implementation of the Council’s LGBTI Guidelines, particularly in relation to the persecution of (perceived) homosexual men in Chechnya”.

The situation in Chechnya was also covered in an urgency resolution in February 2018 named “On the case of Oyub Titiev and the Human Rights Centre Memorial”.
