TAIWAN: A RISING HIGH-TECH POWERHOUSE

Research and Science
Date: Tuesday, 03 July 2018 16:30 - 18:00

Venue: Asia Platform  |  City: Bruxelles

The European Union and Taiwan face similar societal challenges – aging societies, climate change, energy efficiency and sustainable food security – and all look for sustainable solutions based on their research and innovation strength. Also, both see international cooperation as necessary to promote the excellence in science and to increase the competitiveness of their industries.

During the last two decades, the European Union and Taiwan have built a successful track record of R&I cooperation through EU Framework Programmes as well as Taiwan’s bilateral Science & Technology cooperation with EU Member States. The continuous R&I cooperation have not only been developed in its overall sense, but also growing profoundly with more and more focused academic excellence and R&I talents exchanges, advanced and innovative S&T program cooperation, and international joint research efforts to overcome the common societal and global challenges. The successful record of cooperation has been built up on the basis of a complementarity generated from the different R&I developing models implemented by the EU, the EU Member States and Taiwan. This complementarity continues to generate the needs and synergies for all parties for a further, deeper and more sustainable international exchanges and cooperation.

The Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology carries the leading role in such international R&I cooperation. MoST Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Fong-Chin Su’s keynote speech aims to present foresight for a further, deeper and more sustainable R&I cooperation between Taiwan, EU and EU Member States with the new Taiwan’s MoST-led Research and Innovation Flagship Initiatives.
