Adoption and diffusion of high-impact innovation

Health
Date: Tuesday, 09 October 2018 11:00 - 15:30

Venue: Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union  |  City: Bruxelles

EIT Health leverages the expertise of more than 140 leading organizations spanning key areas of healthcare, such as pharma, medtech, payers, research institutions and universities. As a powerful innovation platform, the network is uniquely positioned in terms of breadth, core-competencies and experience to tackle the health care challenges Europe is facing.

EIT Health invites institutions, EIT Health partners, and health care stakeholders to discuss transformation of healthcare systems in Europe and accelerate the speed of change through a better articulation of needs and clearer identification of barriers and potential strategies to overcome them. The event will be developed by experts and stakeholders from EIT Health InnoStars regions from Portugal, Poland, Italy, Hungary and Malta.

In the Lisbon Strategy, the Member States and the European Commission recognized that increasing innovation is a key to respond to the challenge offered by globalization. When studying innovation process, part of the literature understands the technological change process into three distinct phases: the invention process (whereby new ideas are conceived), the innovation process (whereby those new ideas are developed into marketable products or processes), and the diffusion process (whereby the new products spread across the potential market). The diffusion stage is where the impact of the technological change on the economy takes place and where it has to be evaluated.[1]

The event will explore the definition of high-impact innovation as well as necessary mechanisms and principles to create environment for innovation such as leadership, human resources, skills, idea collection, ecosystem support and society readiness. The dialogue in this topic will find answers to questions such as:

·        Can we find innovative funding instruments to support the adoption and diffusion of innovations?

·        How to complete the translation process and support new technologies and processes in their way to implementation?

·     What are the ways to reduce barriers to implementation of innovative solutions and services at a regional and European level?

·        What are the best practices of successful diffusion of high impact innovation in the healthcare sector?
