WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?

On 1st and 2nd June 2016, city mayors, business leaders, universities and NGOs will meet at   the European Sustainable Cities Summit and European Business Summit in Brussels to discuss and showcase the best solutions for the mega-challenges and share the combined opportunities arising from the current changes in the global and European economy.

WHY SUSTAINABLE CITIES?

IN 40 YEARS AROUND 75% OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION WILL LIVE IN CITIES

The global mega-challenges – globalization, shift of power, rapid urbanization, technological breakthrough, climate change and resource scarcity – have established new emergencies for cities' governments. This has made most of the urban development actors from public and private sectors recognize the difficulty of addressing these global challenges unilaterally, encouraging partnerships between sectors. As a result, Cities Sustainable Development has become more and more an interesting and compulsory subject for a wide range of key stakeholders.

The question of how cities respond to the 21st century’s global mega challenges is at the heart of how the new economy can future-proof tomorrow’s cities today.

WHY CROSS-SECTOR ACTION?

CROSS-SECTOR SOLUTIONS FOR CITIES ARE INCREASINGLY NECESSARY

In this way, the problems faced by local governments in shaping sustainable and competitive cities aren’t only a new responsibility for municipalities but also a promising source of opportunities for business. As the opportunities continue to grow the engagement of relevant actors from NGOs and non-profit sectors including universities, innovation labs and pro-cities initiatives also increases, indicating that the cross-sector partnerships are really emerging as a promising tool to drive cities sustainable development.

EVENT’S MAIN GOAL

To overcome these challenges, the European Sustainable Cities Summit was conceptualised to convey stakeholders from a broad spectrum of sectors offering them the opportunities to meet and forge the business and partnerships that are crucial to enable and boost the sustainable development of European cities.

Event’s main goal is to promote sustainable solutions that boost economic growth, investment and jobs creation through profitable cross-sectoral partnerships.
