EBU Media Lunchtime Talk: European Week of Sports and European Championships

Civil Society
Date: Monday, 25 September 2017 12:30

Venue: EBU  |  City: Bruxelles, Belgium

The first ever European Championships will be jointly hosted by Berlin and Glasgow in August 2018. This a major new multi-sport event taking place every four years fully supported by Europe’s free-to-air broadcasters. It will combine the existing senior continental championships of Athletics (European Athletics), Aquatics (LEN), Cycling (UEC), Gymnastics (UEG), Rowing (FISA), Triathlon (ETU), with a new Golf Team Championships (ET & LET) – all unified under a common European identify.

To mark the 2017 European Week of Sport and the launch of the European Sports Championships next year, this EBU Media Lunchtime Talk aims to raise a discussion on free-to-air access to major sports competitions for European citizens. We will also reflect on the role of sports as a means of promoting crucial values such as tolerance and integration and the importance of sporting activity for physical and mental wellbeing.
