DiPP - "Digitising healthcare in EU: check-up time!"

Date: Thursday, 05 October 2017 08:30 - 10:00

Venue: DIGITALEUROPE OFFICES  |  City: Brussel, Belgium

The EU eHealth Action Plan for 2012-2020 aims to put patients in the driving seat. While millions of them and of health professionals are thrilled to use telehealth solutions and download smartphone apps to keep track of their health and wellbeing, the digitalisation of healthcare has yet to reap its great potential to improve healthcare and generate efficiency savings by making the most of the current ‘alignment of the stars’ between technology, curiosity and necessity. Necessity is a potent trigger for people with acute or chronic conditions to tap into alternative sources of information and be ahead of the curve for their own good. There is a huge potential for truly reliable and interoperable ICT-enabled services to bring personalized medicine to the next level.

On the economic side, the medical technology market reached $375b worldwide, $9.7b of which are in the eHealth segment and expected to grow by 17.3% yearly until 2020. Some EU governments are spending up to 15% of their budgets on general healthcare.

This workshop may be seen as a segue to the one we hosted on 24 January.

These leading experts have kindly agreed to launch this conversation:

- Miguel Gonzalez-Sancho-Bodero, Head of Unit, eHealth, Well-being & Ageing, DG CNECT

The Digital in Practice Programme aims to make a case for the digital industry and to evidence the transformative impact of digital products and services. By fostering short, crisp and open debates between leading experts and interested guests, our workshops afford the industry, policy makers and other key stakeholders a powerful educational platform where to share information and discuss informally how a truly ICT-enabled Europe will look like.

For more information on the Digital in Practice Programme, do not hesitate to get in touch with us or visit our website: http://www.digitaleurope.org/

We hope that you will be able to join! #EUevents
