11th European Forum on the rights of the child: Children deprived of their liberty and alternatives to detention

Human Rights
 Registration Closed
Date: Tuesday, 07 November 2017

Venue: European Commission, Albert Borschette Conference Centre (CCAB)  |  City: Etterbeek, Belgium

In the context of the forthcoming UN Global study on children deprived of liberty, and in follow-up to the 12 April 2017 Communication on the protection of children in migration, the 2017 Forum will be dedicated to the topic of children deprived of their liberty and alternatives to detention.

On 7 November 2017, plenary addresses by representatives of EU institutions and international organisations will serve to frame the legal and policy contexts at European and international level.

On 8 November, in four parallel sessions, we will address:

  • Children in conflict with the law
  • Children in immigration detention
  • Children in institutions (deprived of parental care, with disabilities, mental health reasons)
  • Children of parents in prison

Participation and registration

Demand for places always exceeds supply. Because of the limited capacity of the venue and the need to ensure a balanced representation across all EU Member States, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the countries of the Western Balkans – and to ensure the participation of stakeholders whose work directly relates to the topics under discussion who can therefore contribute to follow-up, the Commission will only be able to accept requests for participation using these criteria.

Please note that registration does not therefore guarantee that you will participate in the Forum.

Participation is strictly by invitation only. In principle, participation is limited to one representative per organisation. The first person to register on behalf of an organisation will, in principle, be considered as the organisation’s proposed participant.

If your application is accepted, you will be contacted by a contractor acting on behalf of the European Commission to confirm your registration and to arrange travel and accommodation, if required. Travel and accommodation expenses are to be covered by the European Commission. Do not organise your own travel and accommodation, as it will not be possible to reimburse any costs for any tickets or accommodation booked and paid for by participants.
