Body-related data are increasingly collected and deployed via digital technologies and big data analytics. They allow identifying recurring patterns and automated decision-making about individuals in different contexts: a trend not only in the commercial sector but also in the law enforcement sector. This raises important questions regarding data protection and other fundamental rights: can the European legal framework ensure an effective oversight on the use and implications of big (body) data?
