Let’s Tweet Again! Fake news & social media - Panel Debate

Communication and Media
Date: Monday, 05 February 2018 18:30 - 21:30

Venue: Chez-Mauricette  |  City: Brussel, Belgium

Panel debate

• The internet era and the rise of social media platforms made the regulation of media much more complicated. It made possible for anyone to create and participate in spreading data. At the same time, some countries have been using their information channels to influence and spread their policies.

• The EU has recently announced its new strategy to counter fake news, through increasing funds for it and forming a group of high-level experts. The media industry and other stakeholders are facing a big challenge to address the issue of fake news. Our discussion will focus on the best practices and concrete examples for countering fake news on social media.

- Our speakers will be:

Anneli Ahonen, Member of the East StratCom Task Force, European External Action Service

Martin Stan Mycielski, Correspondent at Gazeta Wyborcza and Founder of EU DisinfoLab

Miruna Herovanu, Policy Advisor at News Media Europe

Registration starts at 18:15.
The debate will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule and followed by a networking cocktail.
