Hearing on the future of the Schengen area

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Tuesday, 20 February 2018 15:00 - 18:30

Venue: Rue Wiertz 60. Brussels  |  City: Ixelles, Belgium

The area of free movement without internal border controls is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of the European integration process. The possibility to travel within the Schengen area without being subject to border controls is highly valued by European citizens.

Due to the rapid development in the field of Schengen, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will hold a public hearing on 20 February 2018 to take stock of the situation regarding the Schengen area. The hearing is intended to facilitate a high-level political debate of the initiatives undertaken by the European Union since the migration crisis started and further assess the progress made with a view for the future.
