The European Commission recently adopted a new strategy regarding the EU’s engagement in the Western Balkans which stresses the geostrategic importance of the region to the EU in order to build a strong and stable, united Europe. Located at the heart of the Balkans, Bosnia and Herzegovina plays a pivotal role in stabilising the neighbourhood, hence the priority given in sustaining long-lasting sustainable peace in the country. Pre-accession negotiations can play a critical role in building durable peace through positive economic, political and social change.

However, Bosnia faces numerous security challenges, most notably the revival of extreme ideologies and nationalism that causes strive within the region, hindering actionable progress to achieve peace. QCEA and YPFP invites you to join an exciting debate aiming to provide you with in-depth insight on the latest political and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU’s role in supporting peace and stability within the region. What is the role in building peace of the EU military operation in Bosnia- Herzegovina (Operation EUFOR ALTHEA)? How can pre-accession negotiations with the EU serve as a basis to further peacebuilding in the Western Balkans? What are the opportunities for civil society dialogue in the accession process? How can the EU further improve its engagement to support the reconciliation and democratization processes? How can one address the growing revival extreme ideologies and rising ethnic tensions?
