Brussels School of International Studies Annual international Conference 2018: Digital Disruptions – How Technology Changes Our Reality

Foreign policy, Security and Defence
Date: Thursday, 05 April 2018 08:30 - 18:00

Venue: Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS), University of Kent  |  City: Etterbeek, Belgium

Every year, the students of the Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS) organise an academic conference to host leading figures from Europe and in the field to spark interesting debates. This BSIS International Conference 2018 is dedicated to "Digital Disruptions" and will explore the dramatic changes sparked by persisting technological innovations, shaking the foundations of established political, economic, and social paradigms. What began as a parallel digital sphere now disrupts the physical world, fundamentally changing our understanding of society. This academic event endeavors to examine this evolution in more depth through the examples of online extremism, political communication, and humanitarian aid. While digital disruptions may still seem far ahead of us, the emergence of a ‘virtual Caliphate’, the growing concerns of online electoral manipulations, or the rise of Blockchain, revolutionizing fund transactions, highlight the need for debate. The carefully curated panels include speakers from organizations like, European Leadership Network, UNESCO-EU, the European Federation for Democracy, the European External Action Service and other such prestigious groups. These experts will provide perspectives from Brussels, the whole of Europe and beyond.
