Forum on domestic election observation in transition countries of Europe and Central Asia

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Wednesday, 21 March 2018 09:30 - 16:15

Venue: European Endowment for Democracy  |  City: Bruxelles, Belgium

While a number of transition countries of Europe and Central Asia have witnessed significant progress in terms of democratic development, deficiencies in the electoral environment still persist. In a landscape characterised by a lack of genuine democratic elections and rooted in political crises, civil society organisations engaged in domestic observation play a crucial role in ensuring transparency of electoral processes, preventing and detecting election fraud, raising awareness of violations and promoting adherence to internationally recognised standards.

The Forum will tackle challenges facing domestic election observers, analyse the opportunities for election monitoring organisations and the role of international community in ensuring transparent electoral processes in the transition countries of Europe and Central Asia. #EUevents
