The Digital Single Market: Preparing Europe for the new digital economy

Economic and Financial Affairs
Date: Tuesday, 15 May 2018 09:00 - 10:30

Venue: Friends of Europe  |  City: Bruxelles, Belgium

Europe needs to stay competitive in the digital economy and restore strategic and economic independence – or it will lose out.

How can Europe regain its leadership in technology and deliver a 5G gigabit society? What European initiatives exist that invest in disruptive technologies?

We’ll be talking all that and more in our ‘Conversation With’ debate with European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel. Completing the Digital Single Market has been a priority for this European Commission, to ensure that business, governments and citizens are fully able to benefit from the digital economy.

‘Conversation with’ Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society

We will also discuss new ways of countering illegal content and disinformation, solutions to the widening digital skills and education gap in Europe and how the Commission can help turn European digital startups into global market players.

•    What remain the biggest obstacles to completing the Digital Single Market in 2018?
•    How can the EU move ahead in digital innovation and help nurture a competitive European digital industry?
•    How well prepared is Europe for the transformative effect of the digital future of work?
