Next Steps for building the Digital Single Market

Industry, Enterprise and Single Market
Date: Monday, 15 October 2018 14:15 - 17:00

Venue: Microsoft Centre, Rue Montoyer 51, 1000 Brussels  |  City: Bruxelles

The growth of the digital economy has clearly benefitted Europe and changed societies for the better. However, the pace of the digital transformation in the real economy is often slower than expected. Reforms in Europe to deepen the Digital Single Market have all too often stumbled upon resistance to meaningful changes that would enable all industries to fully benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technologies. As a consequence, digitalisation has not improved the competitiveness of European industry as much as it could. The economic payoff from all investments in network infrastructure and digital capacities simply has not been good enough.

Now that Europe is beginning to develop policies for the next five years – what should be top on the agenda? What should be the next policy reforms to accelerate digitalisation and create more space for 5G, AI or IoT technologies, products and services?

We cordially invite you to a conference on Europe’s digital future, with Anne Berner, the Finnish Minister for Transport and Communication – and a champion for digitalisation and entrepreneurship – as keynote speaker. The speech by Minister Berner will be followed by a panel discussion.

Programme:

14:20 – 15:15 Keynote by Anne Berner, Minister of Transport and Communications, Finland, followed by Q&A

15:15 – 15:35 Coffee break

15:35 – 17:00 Panel: Raising Europe’s Digital Competitiveness, followed by Q&A

  • Jörgen Gren, Cabinet Expert, Cabinet of Commissioner Andrus Ansip

  • John Frank, Vice President, EU Government Affairs, Microsoft
